An­drews scores win­ner late for Pan­thers

Brent An­drews scored with 13 sec­onds left in reg­u­la­tion Sun­day to give the UPEI Pan­thers a 4-3 vic­tory over the St. Thomas Tom­mies in ex­hi­bi­tion hockey ac­tion. Mar­cus Power scored twice, in­clud­ing once on a penalty shot, and Ma­son Wil­gosh once for the Pan­thers. Stephen MacIn­nis, Nel­son Arm­strong, An­drews and Wil­gosh each had an as­sist. Strat­ford’s Spencer MacDonald, Rankyn Camp­bell and Matt MacLeod replied with goals for St. Thomas. The game was score­less af­ter the first pe­riod and tied 2-2 head­ing to the third. Power scored with 1:44 left, MacLeod tied it with 54 sec­onds re­main­ing and An­drews won it 41 sec­onds later. Matt Ma­ha­lak made 22 saves on 24 shots while Con­nor Wilkin­son stopped eight of nine shots in 20 min­utes of work. Luke Lee-Knight and Tyson Te­ich­mann each al­lowed two goals in split­ting time in the Tom­mies crease. The Pan­thers (8-6-1) host the St. F.X. X-Men (11-2-2) on Fri­day and Dal­housie Tigers (49-2) on Satur­day to be­gin the 2016 por­tion of the At­lantic Univer­sity Sport reg­u­lar sea­son. Games times are 7 p.m.
