Police say they believe the socalled Tunnel Rat bandit is responsible for holding up eight banks — usually fleeing into the subway system after the heist — between Jan. 6 and March 11. They allege Bubbles — named for his large, plastic-framed glasses — held up a west-end bank on March 4, after taking a quantity of money, and the note he’d handed to the teller. Police say the third man — dubbed Whiskers for his welltrimmed moustache and beard — is wanted in bank robberies that occurred on May 7 and Oct. 19. They say that in each instance Whiskers demanded a specific amount of cash and fled in a waiting taxi.
