Cops seek ‘Tunnel Rat,’ ‘Bubbles’ and ‘Whiskers’ in bank heists
TORONTO — Police in Toronto have dubbed them “Tunnel Rat,” “Bubbles,” and “Whiskers.” Investigators say the three men are wanted in a series of 11 bank holdups last year, and they’re hoping members of the public can identify them. Police say they believe the socalled Tunnel Rat bandit is responsible for holding up eight banks — usually fleeing into the subway system after the heist — between Jan. 6 and March 11. They allege Bubbles — named for his large, plastic-framed glasses — held up a west-end bank on March 4, after taking a quantity of money, and the note he’d handed to the teller. Police say the third man — dubbed Whiskers for his welltrimmed moustache and beard — is wanted in bank robberies that occurred on May 7 and Oct. 19. They say that in each instance Whiskers demanded a specific amount of cash and fled in a waiting taxi.
