Pictou - Veron­ica Ber­nice “Von­nie” Chaisson - 83, died peace­fully Jan­uary 6, 2016 in Glen Haven Manor, New Glas­gow, N.S. Born in Ge­orge­town, Prince Ed­ward Is­land, she was a daugh­ter of the late Wil­liam and Mary (Burke) Pros­per. Von­nie is sur­vived by her chil­dren: sons, Frank (Sheila) Chaisson, Char­lot­te­town; David (Elaine) Chaisson, Pictou; daugh­ters, Mar­lene (Bernie) Cur­rie, Pictou and Judy (Al­lan) Hughes, MacLel­lan’s Brook; 11 grand­chil­dren, who lov­ingly re­ferred to her as “Nanny” or “Nanny No Crumbs”; and seven great-grand­chil­dren, who af­fec­tion­ately knew her as “Von­nie the Great”; sis­ters, Julie Hen­nessey, Joanne (Jit­ter Coyle) Arthur, both of Char­lot­te­town; Anna (Ron) Pet­titt, Salmon Arm, B.C.; broth­ers, Bill (Kay) Pros­per, Char­lot­te­town; Ernie (Win­nie) Pros­per, Strat­ford, P.E.I.; broth­erin-law, Char­lie (Mavis) Chaisson, Cape North, N.S.; sis­ter-in-law, Anne Chaisson, Lower Sackville; many nieces and neph­ews. Be­sides her par­ents, she was pre­de­ceased by her hus­band, Leo; daugh­ter, Lor­raine; grand­daugh­ter, Mary Pa­tri­cia Chaisson; broth­ers, Wil­fred and Vin­cent; sis­ters, Myr­tle, Elsie and Frances; broth­ers-in-law, John and Ze­phy Chaisson; sis­ter-in-law, Theresa Chaisson; and nephew, Wil­fred, Jr. Mom was an out­go­ing per­son who en­joyed lis­ten­ing and danc­ing to fiddle mu­sic and trips to the Ba­hamas with Dad in the win­ter. She was also an avid Bingo player, spend­ing many nights of the week play­ing around the county, some­times re­ferred to as “Bingo Bon­nie”. Mom en­joyed her rou­tine, es­pe­cially her weekly vis­its to Ahead of Hair for some pam­per­ing, and lunch to fol­low at Sharon’s Place Fam­ily Restau­rant. We would like to send a spe­cial thank you to the staff at Glen Haven Manor for their friend­ship and care they showed our mother, and us, dur­ing her short stay. Visi­ta­tion will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Fri­day in McLaren Fu­neral Home, Pictou. Fu­neral Mass will take place 11 a.m. Satur­day from the Stella Maris Ro­man Catholic Church, Pictou, with Fa­ther Peter MacDonald of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial will be in the parish ceme­tery. Do­na­tions in her mem­ory may be made to a char­ity of your choice.
