Crowd­fund­ing cam­paign launched in wake of fire that killed 43 horses

PUSLINCH, Ont. — A crowd­fund­ing cam­paign in aid of those af­fected by a south­ern On­tario sta­ble fire that killed 43 race­horses ear­lier this week has raised more than $150,000. The fire late Mon­day night at Classy Lane Train­ing Cen­tre de­stroyed a barn hous­ing horses trained by Ben Wal­lace, Roger May­otte, Chan­tal Mitchell, Kris Di Cenzo, Dan La­gace and Floyd Amos. The own­ers say those wish­ing to make do­na­tions should do so through the of­fi­cial GoFundMe page which has been set up by the Cen­tral On­tario Stan­dard­bred As­so­ci­a­tion. As of Fri­day af­ter­noon, 730 do­na­tions had been made to­talling nearly $160,000 of the $500,000 goal. The pre­lim­i­nary es­ti­mate of losses due to the fire is up to $6 mil­lion. The GoFundMe list­ing says the money raised will be pooled to­gether to help all of the horsepeo­ple in­volved in the tragedy.
