Man gets life for killing his mother
A New Brunswick man who killed his mother and set her home on fire has been sentenced to life in prison with no parole eligibility for 16 years.
Ryan Ernest Roy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and arson in November.
A spokesperson with the Court of Queen's Bench in Woodstock, N.B., says Roy was also ordered to provide a DNA sample and is prohibited from owning firearms for 10 years.
The RCMP say emergency crews responded to a house fire in Peel, near Hartland, around 4:45 a.m. on March 2, 2015.
