Man gets life for killing his mother

A New Brunswick man who killed his mother and set her home on fire has been sen­tenced to life in prison with no pa­role el­i­gi­bil­ity for 16 years.

Ryan Ernest Roy pleaded guilty to se­cond-de­gree mur­der and ar­son in Novem­ber.

A spokesper­son with the Court of Queen's Bench in Wood­stock, N.B., says Roy was also or­dered to pro­vide a DNA sam­ple and is pro­hib­ited from own­ing firearms for 10 years.

The RCMP say emer­gency crews re­sponded to a house fire in Peel, near Hart­land, around 4:45 a.m. on March 2, 2015.
