Reagan’s words still ring true

The Guardian (Charlottetown) - - EDITORIAL -

Kevin Arsenault wrote an excellent and factual guest opinion regarding abortion in “The Guardian” of Jan.7, 2016. Your editorial beside it had a glaring omission-failure to consider rights for the unborn child. Abortion is not “the right thing” regardless of how many places allow it. Pregnancy is not a disease. Abortion is not a reproductive service. It is quite the contrary.

If Premier MacLauchlan wishes to show courage and I challenge him to do so, he can request that the federal government address the lack of any law protecting the rights of the unborn. Un fortunately, Justin Trudeau’s father failed to enshrine those rights in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms years ago.

As for Islanders being progressive and your references to Syrian refugees, a first ethnic premier, etc., those are other issues. The issue is the rights of the unborn. And yes, we know it is 2016 so let us do the right thing on P.E.I. and protect the unborn and support new mothers and babies in all situations. Desperate women do have others choices besides abortion and let us direct our tax dollars to those services.

The “Guardian” gave front-page coverage to the sad case of “Baby Albion” last year. Many kind people came forward to provide a dignified burial. The reality is that in this country,” Baby Albion” could have been aborted up to the point of his/her birth and our tax dollars would have paid for the procedure. The RCMP are treating the case as a murder investigation. Such is the irony of the case of precious Baby Albion.

I will close with a quote from former Pro-Life American President Ronald Reagan: “I’ve noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.” Dianne Fraser, Summerville
