Pan­thers gain point

St. F.X. needs ex­tra time to de­feat UPEI

The St. F.X. hockey teams scored a pair of over­time wins over the UPEI Pan­thers Fri­day.

Cory Mac­In­tosh scored 6:32 into over­time as the X-Men de­feated the Pan­thers 5-4 at MacLauch­lan Arena while Tay­lor Dale scored the win­ner 6:36 into over­time as the host XWomen de­feated the Pan­thers 2-1.

It was the Pan­thers first games of the se­cond se­mes­ter of the At­lantic Univer­sity Sport sea­son.

The men’s Pan­thers trailed 10 af­ter the first pe­riod and 4-0 go­ing to the third.

Brent An­drews scored nine sec­onds into the fi­nal frame and added a power-play goal five min­utes later. Beni Ber­isha, in his first game with the Pan­thers, made it a one-goal game two min­utes later and Ryan MacKin­non tied it with two sec­onds to play.

Cap­tain Ma­son Wil­gosh had three as­sists, Mar­cus Power two while sin­gles went to An­drews, Nick Parker and Craig MacLauch­lan.

Eric Locke, Cory Mac­In­tosh, Blake Gal and Craig Duin­inck scored for the X-Men in regulation. Drew Owsley saves for the win.

27 re­placed by Mavric Parks to start the third. Parks stopped 10 of 11 shots.

UPEI was 1-for-4 on the power play and St. F.X. was 0-for-2. St. F.X. out­shot UPEI 8-2 in over­time.

The X-Men im­proved to 12-22 while the Pan­thers are 8-6-2. The Pan­thers play the Dal­housie Tigers (4-10-2) to­day at 7 p.m. at the Eastlink Cen­tre as part of the Hockey Day in P.E.I. fes­tiv­i­ties.

UPEI’s Cas­sidy McCabe opened the scor­ing in the women’s game mid­way through the first pe­riod af­ter tak­ing a pass from Tea­gan Pringle. It was the se­cond-year for­ward’s first goal of the sea­son.

The goal held up for the vis­i­tors un­til Schyler Camp­bell scored with 4:33 left in the third pe­riod.

So­jung Shin made 37 saves for the win while Marie-Soleil Desch­enes made 30 stops in the loss.

UPEI was 0-for-3 on the power play while St. F.X. was 0-for-1.

The X-Women im­proved to 75-1 while the Pan­thers are 2-8-3 and host the Mount Al­li­son Moun­ties (5-7-0) to­day at 4 p.m. at MacLauch­lan Arena.
