Laplante leads Gatineau past Isles
Former Charlottetown Islanders forward Yan-Pavel Laplante scored a goal and set up four more Friday as the Gatineau Olympiques defeated the Isles 75 at the Eastlink Centre.
It was Laplante’s final regular season game at the rink he called home for two-and-a-half seasons. He now has 27 goals and 25 assists for 52 points in 40 games this season.
Gatineau led 3-0 after the first period and 4-3 after the second.
Alexandre Alain had two goals and an assist in the victory while Alexandre Carrier, Tristen Elie, Yakov Trenin and Nicolas Meloche also scored. Gabryel Paquin-Boudreau (3), MarcOlivier Crevier-Morin (2), Guillaume McSween, Alex Breton and Carrier all had assists.
Filip Rydstrom had two goals to pace the Islanders while Alexis Vanier on the power play, Will Thompson and Oliver Cooper each added one.
Daniel Sprong, Pierre-Olivier Joseph, Cooper and Mitchell Balmas each had an assist.
Laplante and Rydstrom each scored shorthanded.
Mason McDonald allowed seven goals on 28 shots for the Islanders. Mathieu Bellemare stopped 35 shots in the win.
Gatineau was 2-for-7 on the power play while Charlottetown was 1-for-6.
The Olympiques improved to 26-12-1-1. The Isles fell to 15-213-2 host Rimouski (24-12-3-1) today at 3 p.m.
