Eighty years ago this week, then Prince Ed­ward Is­land premier Wal­ter Lea died in of­fice. A farmer and live­stock breeder by pro­fes­sion, Lea was born in Tryon on Feb. 10, 1874. He was elected to the P.E.I. leg­is­la­ture in 1915 and be­came premier in 1930. He lost the next elec­tion but was at the helm in 1935 when the Lib­er­als won all 30 seats in the leg­is­la­ture. Lea had been ill dur­ing the cam­paign, how­ever, and died in of­fice on Jan. 10,1936.
