Desroches coming back
Storm release Rush, Cook as fine-tuning of roster continues
The Island Storm signed sixfoot-four shooting guard Alex Desroches on Monday and released forwards Billy Rush and Lovell Cook.
Desroches, a Dieppe, N.B., native who spent the summer and fall playing professionally in Australia, returns for his second stint with the Storm.
He averaged five points, three rebounds, and shot 61 per cent from the field in 12.5 minutes per game last year.
“He was a great piece for us last year, and someone we were hoping to bring back at the start of this season," said Storm head coach Joe Salerno. “His energy is contagious and he brings the same work ethic day in and day out.”
The Storm also activated Brent Jennings from the injured reserve list. He's expected to play Friday versus Windsor at the Eastlink Centre at 7 p.m.
Rush had averaged eight points in seven games with the Storm this season, while Cook scored 10 points per game in three contests.
Salerno called releasing Rush a tough decision.
"He is a very good player, and a great person, but we felt it was time to make some changes,” he said. “We certainly appreciate all the Billy has done for us both on the floor and in the community ad wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
Alex Desroches makes a pass during practice last season with the Island Storm.
