Yoga work­shops in Char­lot­te­town this week­end

Two yoga work­shops are be­ing held this week­end to help peo­ple in­cor­po­rate Yoga into their daily life. 40 Day Sad­hana is Fri­day, Jan­uary 15, from 6-8:30 pm and Yin Yoga is Satur­day, Jan. 16, from 9 am to noon. Both will be at Health Within Holis­tics Cen­tre, 500B Queen St. in Char­lot­te­town, and both are taught by Ruth Rich­man of Yoga Ink who has been teach­ing yoga classes and work­shops for many years on P.E.I.

In Yoga the word Sad­hana means daily prac­tice and 40 days is the time needed to in­cor­po­rate new ac­tions or ideas into our busy lives to make them stick. Some­times it is dif­fi­cult to fig­ure out you want to do for 40 days or how to fit it into an al­ready full life.

The work­shop will in­tro­duce many prac­tices in sev­eral Yoga styles that take 3 min­utes to 15 min­utes. A bonus of the work­shop is the 40 day sup­port man­ual, “Liv­ing Light”, that all par­tic­i­pants will re­ceive which gives daily en­cour­age­ment and acts as a jour­nal. Also, there will be daily email sup­port. The work­shop can be at­tended on its own or par­tic­i­pants can take the op­tional part two, in Fe­bru­ary, states a news re­lease.

Satur­day morn­ing’s Yin work- shop ex­plores the pos­tures of the style as taught by Biff Mithoe­fer, an in­ter­na­tion­ally known teacher who has been on P.E.I. sev­eral times.

He en­cour­ages Yin yoga to help coun­ter­act life’s stres­sors and also for suf­fer­ers of post trau­matic stress syn­drome, com­pas­sion fa­tigue, some per­sis­tent pain, mild de­pres­sion and other syn­dromes that in­hibit a full phys­i­cal life. Yin is a yoga style that uses props, grav­ity, and time, to re­lax mus­cles, cre­ate more joint mo­bil­ity, and re­lease the con­nec­tive tis­sue and fas­cia of the body. It is in the con­nec­tive tis­sue that we store our emo­tional pain, which can cre­ate stiff bod­ies and tight joints. The class ends with a deep re­lax­ation prac­tice called Yoga Nidra or Yoga Sleep.

Th­ese work­shops are open to yoga prac­ti­tion­ers of all styles and at any level in­clud­ing begin­ners.
