United Potato Grow­ers of Canada Sem­i­nar 2016 will be held Jan. 27 at the Red Shores Race­track and Casino in Char­lot­te­town, P.E.I. The line-up of speak­ers is strong, and should pro­vide very use­ful in­for­ma­tion for your farm, and for our in­dus­try. Speaker top­ics in­clude Thimet 20G and Smart­Box: A new for­mu­la­tion of Thimet will be used for 2016 and be­yond. Also PMRA has made the use of a Smart­Box ap­pli­ca­tor manda­tory for grow­ers who wish to use Thimet for wire­worm con­trol this spring. A rep­re­sen­ta­tive from AMVAC, the man­u­fac­turer of Thimet, will pro- vide in­for­ma­tion on th­ese changes, and what it means for P.E.I. grow­ers. As well, a mar­ket out­look for the re­main­der of the 2016 ship­ping sea­son, and pre­dic­tions for 2016 potato acreage will be given. Other top­ics in­clude in­put price mon­i­tor­ing and ex­change rate im­pacts. Reg­is­tra­tion will take place from 8:30- 9 a.m. Lunch will be pro­vided. There is no cost to at­tend, but pre-reg­is­tra­tion is re­quired so that we have the proper ar­range­ments for the meet­ing space and for lunch. One day train­ing and writ­ing pes­ti­cide exam will be held Feb. 3 at the Rodd Roy­alty, TCH, Char­lot­te­town. Work­shops

Com­mu­ni­cat­ing for re­sults on the fam­ily farm skills train­ing for At­lantic young farm­ers. Work­ing with the ones you love on the fam­ily farm can be the best of times or the worst of times. Im­prove fam­ily com­mu­ni­ca­tion with prac­ti­cal strate­gies from farm suc­ces­sion ex­pert John Fast. This work­shop will be de­liv­ered on Dal­housie’s Fac­ulty of Agri­cul­ture cam­pus in Bi­ble Hill, N.S. from Feb. 12-13. Reg­is­tra­tion dead­line is Jan. 25.
