Town of Stratford launches residents survey

The Guardian (Charlottetown) - - THE PROVINCE -

The Town of Stratford is asking its residents for input on issues that include the transit system and local buying habits.

The town launched its fifth annual residents survey recently.

Past surveys have helped the town make decisions on cosmetic pesticides, traffic safety, the farmers’ market and the creation of a community garden.

Mayor David Dunphy said the process has become an integral tool for council and staff in monitoring progress as well as making decisions about the future.

“In fact, we just recently launched a new initiative called Snow Angels, based on suggestions received through the survey last year,’’ Dunphy says.

Snow Angels is a program that identifies seniors and residents with disabilities, illness or others who need help with snow removal.

The program then connects them with volunteer residents who are interested and able to help them.

This year, in addition to ongoing topics such as physical activity, governance and safety, the survey includes a new series of topics, such as asking questions about residents’ knowledge and use of the T3 Transit system, their local buying habits and opinions about potential development and zoning options for the town.

Dunphy said council will be reviewing the town’s zoning bylaw over the coming year and it’s important to understand residents’ thoughts on how and where development will happen.

“We also want to be sure our new and existing programs such as ‘support local’ and the T3 Transit have the greatest possible impact. Feedback through the survey helps us do this.’’

Residents can complete the survey online by visiting the town website or going directly to www.TownofStratford.ca/Annual

A print version of the survey will once again be distributed to all residents in the coming weeks. The deadline for submissions is Monday, March 7.
