Residents in Georgetown are sending thoughts and prayers to a community member who was connected to last Friday’s shooting in La Loche, Sask.

Georgetown Royalty resident Peter Bradley is currently living in La Loche and teaches at the school where the shooting took place.

Bradley, who was previously a regular substitute teacher at Georgetown Elementary School, was unharmed in the shooting that saw four killed and seven critically wounded.

Georgetown Mayor Lewis Lavandier offered support and sympathies to Bradley and other members of the small northern community.

“(Bradley) wasn’t injured, but it’s a terrible tragedy,” said Lavandier. “When you know people that are involved in it, it certainly brings it home.”

Lavandier noted that similar tragedies are typically associated with the United States. They’re quite uncommon in Canada.

“It really shakes you up when you hear about something like that happening,” he said. “It’s a terrible tragedy, and certainly our thoughts and prayers are with the families involved in this.

It’s really a sad situation.”

Bradley’s wife, Darlene, still lives in Georgetown Royalty, and he has family originally from Georgetown.

The Guardian was unable to reach members of the Bradley family.

The principal of the La Loche school previously asked staff not to speak publicly about the shooting out of respect for victims.

The suspect had allegedly shot and killed his two brothers before going to the school, where he shot nine others.

Two of the school victims, a teacher and teacher’s assistant, were killed.

A 17-year-old suspect is in custody and made an appearance in court Monday.

He faces four charges of firstdegree murder and seven charges of attempted murder.
