Midget squad beats Saint John, loses to Fredericton
Sport P.E.I. hands out its hardware to the Island’s top athletes early next month.
The Charlottetown Robin’s Donuts Islanders split a twogame, home-ice weekend set in the N.B.-P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League winning 6-5 over the Saint John Vitos on Saturday then losing 2-0 on Sunday against the Fredericton Caps.
On Sunday, Justin Lush and Joel Walker scored for Fredericton while Jack Grant made 25 saves for his second shutout of the season.
Saturday, three goals in the second period gave the Isles enough cushion the secure the win.
Alex Chapman, Cale Pierce (12) and Nick Trainor netted the goals in the second, while Jordon Birt scored in the first and Chapman and Kallum Muirhead (1-1) tallied in the third.
Cameron Crowell, Cole Theriault, Ian Smallwood (2) and Anderson MacDonald had the Vitos goals.
Noah Laybolt earned the goaltending win over Michael Parkhill.
Also Saturday, the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild lost 6-2 to the Moncton Flyers 6-2 in Kensington.
Brodie MacArthur and Frank Fortin scored for the Wild. Cole Waugh (2), Chad Doiron, Felix LeBlanc, Brennan Laverty and Alex Elsliger had Moncton’s scores.
