Midget squad beats Saint John, loses to Fredericton

Sport P.E.I. hands out its hard­ware to the Is­land’s top ath­letes early next month.

The Char­lot­te­town Robin’s Donuts Is­lan­ders split a twogame, home-ice week­end set in the N.B.-P.E.I. Ma­jor Midget Hockey League win­ning 6-5 over the Saint John Vi­tos on Satur­day then los­ing 2-0 on Sun­day against the Fredericton Caps.

On Sun­day, Justin Lush and Joel Walker scored for Fredericton while Jack Grant made 25 saves for his se­cond shutout of the sea­son.

Satur­day, three goals in the se­cond pe­riod gave the Isles enough cush­ion the se­cure the win.

Alex Chapman, Cale Pierce (12) and Nick Trainor net­ted the goals in the se­cond, while Jor­don Birt scored in the first and Chapman and Kal­lum Muir­head (1-1) tal­lied in the third.

Cameron Crow­ell, Cole The­ri­ault, Ian Small­wood (2) and An­der­son MacDon­ald had the Vi­tos goals.

Noah Lay­bolt earned the goaltending win over Michael Parkhill.

Also Satur­day, the Kens­ing­ton Mon­aghan Farms Wild lost 6-2 to the Monc­ton Fly­ers 6-2 in Kens­ing­ton.

Brodie MacArthur and Frank Fortin scored for the Wild. Cole Waugh (2), Chad Doiron, Felix LeBlanc, Bren­nan Laverty and Alex El­sliger had Monc­ton’s scores.
