Busy week­end on Is­land roads

Drunk driv­ers, other vi­o­la­tions lead to sev­eral ar­rests

A traf­fic stop could prove costly for a woman who was al­legedly caught with mar­i­juana af­ter a traf­fic stop on a ve­hi­cle in which she was a pas­sen­ger.

On Jan. 23 at 12:45 p.m. the RCMP al­legedly saw some­one who was known to po­lice driv­ing while dis­qual­i­fied.

The po­lice stopped him in a drive­way in Char­lot­te­town and al­legedly found a pas­sen­ger in the ve­hi­cle had mar­i­juana and a can of bear spray.

She was ar­rested for al­legedly falsely iden­ti­fy­ing her­self as the driver.

The driver was charged with driv­ing while dis­qual­i­fied.

A Pleas­ant Grove man was also charged with driv­ing while dis­qual­i­fied af­ter the RCMP saw his ve­hi­cle parked with­out a li­cence plate.

On Satur­day at 4:30 p.m., the RCMP saw the ve­hi­cle stopped at a mail­box and ar­rested the 56year-old driver.

A 52-year-old man is fac­ing a charge of hav­ing care and con­trol of a ve­hi­cle while im­paired af­ter he was ar­rested in North Rus­tico on Satur­day.

The RCMP al­lege the man was drink­ing beer while be­hind the wheel at the North Rus­tico Lions Club.

Breath­a­lyzer sam­ples al­legedly showed his blood al­co­hol level was al­most three times the le­gal limit.

Soon af­ter, the RCMP charged a 25-year-old Emy­vale man with driv­ing while his li­cence was sus­pended.

The RCMP also is­sued him a speed­ing ticket.

On Sun­day, the RCMP is­sued a 90-day driv­ing sus­pen­sion and speed­ing ticket to a 19-year-old Scotch­fort man who failed a road­side screen­ing test.

The man was driv­ing with a grad­u­ated li­cence and breath­a­lyzer sam­ples taken later were al­legedly just over the le­gal limit.

There were also three more 911 calls over the week­end for sus­pected im­paired driv­ing.

One of those calls led po­lice to stop a driver from leav­ing a res­i­dence while drunk.
