Is­land speed­skaters com­pete in New Brunswick com­pe­ti­tion

Rose Val­ley na­tive Olivia Wood picked up P.E.I.’s lone medal at a re­cent short-track speed skat­ing event in Hamp­ton, N.B..

Wood brought home a bronze medal in divi­sion four af­ter post­ing a pair of per­sonal-best times at the one-day meet.

She was part of a four-mem­ber Is­land con­tin­gent, in­clud­ing Wil­liam Lyons of the East­ern Kings Speed Skat­ing Club, Daniel MacKin­non of Mur­ray River and Alex Rogers of Char­lot­te­town.

Lyons had the fastest P.E.I. times, miss­ing the podium in divi­sion one with a fourth-place fin­ish.

MacKin­non took fifth in divi­sion two with a per­sonal-best in his 400-me­tre event, while Rogers nabbed eighth in divi­sion two.

Misha Boulerice and Alyssa Rusk, both from Fredericton, N.B., won the re­spec­tive male and fe­male top hon­ours.

The meet fea­tured 79 skaters from seven clubs in New Brunswick and P.E.I.

The next event is Feb. 6 and 7 in Dieppe, N.B., fol­lowed by the Canada East short track cham­pi­onships March 26 and 27 at Eastlink Cen­tre in Char­lot­te­town.
