Lynx claw path to vic­tory over Fly­ers

Josh Nelson scored twice, in­clud­ing an empty-net­ter that proved to be the game-win­ning goal, as the South­side MacDon­ald’s Ex­ca­va­tion EF MacPhee Lynx es­caped with an 8-7 win over the Morell Fly­ers on Wed­nes­day in Cra­paud.

Brady Van­dervelden also chipped in a hat trick in the vic­tory in Razzy’s P.E.I. Ju­nior C Hockey League ac­tion.

The Lynx score three times in the se­cond and third pe­ri­ods, and the plucky Fly­ers fight back with three third-pe­riod goals, in­clud­ing its sev­enth with just over a minute left in the game.

Colton Daw­son (1-2), Jake Larsen and Joe Donelle had the other Lynx goals. Blake MacKen­zie and Bran­don Green each tal­lied two as­sists.

The game was tied 2-2 af­ter the first pe­riod. South­side led 5-4 at the se­cond in­ter­mis­sion.

Dal­ton Kemp (2-1), Kaelin Fisher (1-3), Spencer Comp­ton (1-1), Robert Smith (1-1), Cole Con­don (1-1) and Nick Mur­phy scored for Morell, which was out­shot 34-24.

Sean MacPhee earned the win over Seth Ni­chol­son.
