UPEI lose to UNB in men’s hockey

Tyler Car­roll’s short­handed goal was the win­ner Fri­day as the UPEI Pan­thers lost 2-1 to the UNB Var­sity Reds in At­lantic Univer­sity Sport men’s hockey ac­tion in Fredericton, N.B. It is the third straight game a short­handed goal has cost the Pan­thers.Cam Braes also scored for the Var­sity Reds, who scored twice in the se­cond pe­riod to take a 2-0 lead.Ryan MacKin­non’s power-play goal 4:39 into the third cut the deficit to one. Nelson Arm­strong and Mar­cus Power had as­sists. Eti­enne Mar­coux made 26 saves for the win while Matt Ma­ha­lak stopped 53 shots in the loss. UPEI was 1-for-5 on the power play while UNB was 0for-5. UNB im­proved to 18-32 while UPEI is 10-11-2 af­ter drop­ping three straight games. The Pan­thers play at the St. Thomas Tom­mies (220-1) tonight at 7 p.m. The women’s Pan­thers (4-12-3) play at St. Thomas (11-6-1) Sun­day at 3 p.m
