P.E.I. junior rinks drop final games
P.E.I.’s entries dropped their final games Friday at the Canadian junior curling championships in Stratford, Ont.
Matthew MacLean’s rink from O’Leary and Cornwall fell behind 5-0 after three ends in a 9-2 loss to Nova Scotia in seeding round action.
The result left the P.E.I. men’s representative with a 3-6 record.
Meanwhile, Katie Fullerton’s rink from Cornwall fell 8-3 to Northern Ontario to complete play at 4-5.
After Fullerton tied the game 3-3 with a single in the seventh end, Northern Ontario counted five in the eighth.
The Nova Scotia men and Northern Ontario women both improved to 5-4.
MacLean’s teammates are Alan MacLean, Noah O’Connor and Jordan MacLean. Aleya Quilty, Sabrina Smith and Chloe McCloskey play with Fullerton.
New Brunswick’s Justine Comeau scored twice in the 10th end to earn a 7-5 tiebreaker win over Manitoba’s Abby Ackland on Friday.
Comeau will face B.C.’s Sarah Daniels in semifinal action Saturday. The winner takes on Nova Scotia’s Mary Fay in Sunday’s final.
