Char­lot­te­town man charged with ag­gra­vated as­sault

A 33-year-old Char­lot­te­town man is in jail for al­legedly as­sault­ing a woman at an ad­dress on St. Peter’s Road. Char­lot­te­town po­lice re­sponded to the com­plaint Mon­day night, and were in­formed by wit­nesses that the man as­saulted a 38-year-old woman.

The woman was in­jured and taken to Queen El­iz­a­beth Hos­pi­tal for treat­ment. Po­lice did not say the sever­ity of the in­juries.

Of­fi­cers ar­rested the man and charged him with ag­gra­vated as­sault, as­sault, ut­ter­ing threats, breach­ing his pro­ba­tion and fail­ing to com­ply with an un­der­tak­ing. He will ap­pear in court at a later date.

Po­lice are con­tin­u­ing their in­ves­ti­ga­tion and said the ac­cused and the woman are known to each other.
