Squirrel causes early morning power outage

The Guardian (Charlottetown) - - THE ISLAND - BY MILLICENT MCKAY

For a third time in three years, an animal colliding with city power lines caused a power outage Summerside.

The outage was caused when a squirrel came into contact with a power line on Cedar Street.

The city’s power lines are no more sensitive than any other electric utility, said Lorri Laughlin, chief communications officer for the city.

“Outages caused by encounters with wildlife are a common occurrence across the country.”

Crews were sent out to assess the entire circuit, before “reenergization” was started, she added.
