P.E.I. squads draw with Newfoundland and Labrador in under-13, under-14 Atlantic girls soccer Thursday in Charlottetown
Neither P.E.I. squad at the under-13 and under-14 girls Atlantic championships could find the winning goal Thursday as both tied Newfoundland and Labrador on the tournament’s opening day in Charlottetown.
The under-13s settled for a 1-1 draw on a goal by Lydia Hamill with four minutes left in the first half to even things. Jessie Ball netted the N.L. marker with six minutes led tin the half.
Meanwhile the under-14s also finished with a 1-1 result.
Reese Kelly had P.E.I.’s goal to tie things 1-1 in the second half after Brianna Gilmore scored for N.L. with 15 minutes remaining in the game. The teams were 0-0 at halftime.
Both Island teams, each 0-01, face Nova Scotia on Friday at UPEI.
The under-13 game is at 10 a.m. against a 0-0-1 N.S. group, the under-14 contest is 4 p.m. Nova Scotia is 1-0 in that division.
In the day’s other games, New Brunswick tied Nova Scotia 2-2 in under-13 action, while N.S. shutout N.B. 4-0 in under-14 play.
Friday’s other matchups have N.B. facing N.L. at noon in under-13 and at 2 p.m. in under14.
