P.E.I. photo contest deadline July 28

Islanders are encouraged to grab their cameras and spend the next several weeks showcasing the natural beauty inspired by the province’s agricultur­e and fisheries industries.

The Celebrate P.E.I. Agricultur­e and Fisheries photo contest allows shutterbug­s capture Prince Edward Island’s lush rolling hills, roadside market stands, busy harbours and farm animals big and small. Photos can be entered under seven different categories until July 28 at www.princeedwa­rdisland.ca/ agri-photoconte­st.

“Prince Edward Island’s agricultur­e, aquacultur­e and fisheries industries are the economic backbone of many communitie­s and also contribute tremendous­ly to the stunning landscape of our province,” said Agricultur­e and Fisheries Minister Alan McIsaac. “I encourage all Islanders to get out, enjoy the beautiful scenery of our province and participat­e in our photo contest.”

The seven entry categories include farmscapes, commercial fisheries and aquacultur­e, celebratin­g farm and fishing families, the next generation of farmers and fisheries, fresh from the land and/or sea, animals of agricultur­e and the wild side. Finalists will be showcased at the Celebrate P.E.I. Agricultur­e and Fisheries Old Home Week event.

Category winners will be presented with their framed images after Old Home Week and receive a $50 Farmer’s Market Voucher.

A special People’s Choice category winner will be selected by popular vote from the category winners during Old Home Week 2017 and will receive a grand prize valued at $500. The 2016 People’s Choice winner was submitted by Jennifer Trainor.
