Three 17-year-old boys gave a passer-by a good scare Friday night when they pulled out a pellet gun near Cavendish.

The RCMP said they received a report from a pedestrian who came across three people brandishing a rifle near the Simpsons Mill Road.

Officers attended, but soon discovered the three boys had a black long-barreled pellet gun and a slingshot.

No charges were laid, but the officers did have a frank talk with the boys and their parents about the dangers of having the weapon out in a public area.

Police said the three were not attending the nearby Cavendish Beach Music Festival.

The RCMP said the passerby did the right thing by contacting them about what he thought was a real weapon.
