Man assaulted with wrench

The Guardian (Charlottetown) - - THE ISLAND -

A Summerside man is in police custody and has been charged with assault after he allegedly attacked another man with a wrench earlier this week.

On Monday, shortly after 10 a.m., Summerside Police Services received a report that a man had just been assaulted in the downtown area of the city.

Police responded immediately and located an injured man who told police he had just been assaulted by another man with a metal object. The injured man was bleeding from his head area and was transported to hospital by ambulance.

Within a couple of hours, police located and arrested the suspect, and he has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and assault with a weapon. The weapon alleged to have been used in the commission of this offence was a wrench, which was recovered by police when the suspect was arrested.

The victim was treated in hospital for the injury sustained to his head and he has been released.

It appears that the two men knew each other, but it is not known what sparked this incident.

The suspect, a 25-year-old Summerside man, remains in custody and faces a court date on Aug. 15.
