Atlantic Blue enjoyable show

The Guardian (Charlottetown) - - EDITORIAL -

Summer is the time to explore our beautiful Island and to enjoy the ceilidhs and musical shows. There are countless from which to choose. We recently attended Atlantic Blue featuring Tara MacLean at the Charlottetown Guild. Tara is an award-winning, P.E.I. born singer/songwriter. Atlantic Blue is Tara’s love letter to the Canadian East Coast and the music that influenced the songwriter she became.

On stage with Tara were Todd MacLean, Cynthia MacLeod, Caroline Bernard and Mark Geddes. The show also features special guests including singers and dancers.

We were taken on a musical journey over a period of time, which included such artists as Rita McNeil, Lennie Gallant, The Rankins, Stompin Tom Connors, Hank Snow, Gene MacLellan, Sara McLachlan, Ron Hynes, SHAYE and Gordie Sampson.

Extensive biographies and photos of each artist preceded the songs performed by Tara and her band. It was amazing to hear how the struggles of some artists made them stronger and more determined to succeed in the music industry.

Tara gave credit to Earle’s Picture Restoration for the many photos depicting the past history of the Island.

During intermission we were free to browse the art gallery downstairs and view the many paintings on display.

This was a most enjoyable evening. Check it out you won’t be disappointed.
