Brewers strike late
The Northside Gill Construction Brewers scored six unearned runs in the top of the fifth to break open a scoreless game and went on to beat the Cardigan Clippers 12-1 Wednesday night.
Jayden MacLean pitched a complete game three-hitter to earn the Kings County Baseball League win for the Brew Crew.
Spencer Smith led the Brewers at the plate going 3-for-5 with a triple. Jamie Arsenault had two hits and three RBI and Jed MacEwen had two hits and two RBI for the Brewers.
Quinn Hughes suffered the loss for the Clippers with relief from Darion Johnson and Colin MacIntyre. Jed Walsh had a double and RBI to lead the Clipper bats.
Athletics 6, Expos 0
The Alley Stratford Athletics defeated the Charlottetown Expos 6-0.
Dan O’Shea threw a fourhitter with 12 strikeouts for the win. Jeremy Keoughan took the loss with relief coming from Peter MacAuley.
Corey Dougay had three hits and drove in two runs to lead the Athletics offence while Ryne MacIsaac chipped in two hits.
Jordan Duffy and Brad Mullen had hits for the Expos.
The Brewers and Athletics have a makeup game in Stratford Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Chevies 8, Jays 7
Darcy Affleck stroked a tworun single in the sixth inning to erase a 7-6 deficit and lift the Morell Chevies to an 8-7 win over the Charlottetown Jays at Memorial Field.
Logan Gallant pitched two scoreless innings in relief of starter Andrew O’Shea to pick up the win, while John Burke was tagged with the loss in relief of Jays starter Calvin Larkin.
Desi Doyle was 3-for-4 with three RBI to pace the Chevies (7-3) while Stephen O’Shea added a pair of hits.
Thane Arsenault, Jamie Smith and Chad MacKay all had two hits to lead the Jays.
