Drunk driver jailed af­ter al­most hit­ting py­lons

A Corn­wall man who al­most hit sev­eral py­lons on a road while he was driv­ing drunk was sen­tenced Mon­day to three days in jail. Lin­coln G. MacEach­ern, 55, ap­peared be­fore Chief Judge Nancy Orr in pro­vin­cial court in Char­lot­te­town where he pleaded guilty to fail­ing the breath­a­lyzer.

The court heard that on May 29 Char­lot­te­town po­lice re­sponded to a com­plaint about a pos­si­ble im­paired driver. They saw MacEach­ern’s Mazda al­most hit sev­eral py­lons on Cap­i­tal Drive. He later pro­vided breath­a­lyzer sam­ples that were above the le­gal limit. Along with the jail time, Orr fined MacEach­ern $1,000 and or­dered him to pay a $300 vic­tim sur­charge. MacEach­ern is banned from driv­ing for one year.
