Docherty Family returning

Concert at St. Andrew’s Chapel

The Guardian (Charlottetown) - - ENTERTAINMENT -

The Docherty family continues a long-standing tradition this weekend with a concert at St. Andrew’s Chapel.

This well-known musical Island family has been performing across P.E.I. and the Maritimes for close to 30 years and not a summer has gone by in 22 of those years where they did not do a show at what they call “one of our favourite venues to play in.”

Located on Route 2, just past Mount Stewart, the quaint and historic chapel is situated on a hill overlooking the Hillsborough River and the nearby village. Walking through the doors and into the character and charm of the wood-clad walls and exposed beams transports people back in time.

Those same features also add to the rich, warm acoustics, which make performances so enjoyable.

On Sunday night, audiences will be treated to a mixture of traditional East Coast songs, come country favourites, some toe-tapping fiddle and accordion tunes and a few surprises, stories and chuckles by George Docherty on guitar, violin, accordion, harmonica and vocals, along with his three sons: Kendall on lead vocals and keyboard; Jason on bass guitar and vocals; and Timothy on lead guitar and vocals. Also on stage will be long-time band mate and adopted family member Brian Knox on drums.

The show gets underway at 8 p.m. and there will be a lunch and 50/50 draw in support of the Friends of Saint Andrews and the maintenance and operation of this facility. Admission is at the door.
