DesRoche en­joys big day at SRW

Pic­to­nian Storm clocks fastest mile

Ryan DesRoche capped a big day at Red Shores at Summerside Race­way.

The 19-year-old driver notched his first ca­reer driv­ing hat trick on Sun­day af­ter­noon’s 12-dash har­ness rac­ing pro­gram. DesRoche drove One­hotvettt to a 2:01 vic­tory in Race 5 for trainer Austin Sor­rie; steered Painted Desert to a 1:57.4 tri­umph in Race 8, and closed out the pro­gram with a 1:59.1 vic­tory be­hind Cap­i­tal­ism in the fi­nale. Kristina McCourt trains Painted Desert and Cap­i­tal­ism.

The only DesRoche-driven horse not to hit the win­ner’s cir­cle was Ul­ti­mate Faith. How­ever, the 10-year-old brown mare fin­ished sec­ond for trainer Philip DesRoches – Ryan’s fa­ther.


Pic­to­nian Storm won the $2,259 fea­tured event in Race 11. The six-year-old bay geld­ing by West­ern Par­adise-Southview Sasha-Matts Scooter stopped the clock in 1:56.4. Mi­nor Wis­dom cut out frac­tions of 28 and 58.3 sec­onds, be­fore Pic­to­nian Storm led the field through the three-quar­ter frac­tion of 1:27.3.

Gary Chap­pell drove the Austin Sor­rie-trained Pic­to­nian Storm for owner Wal­ter Simmons of Summerside.

Other win­ners on the card were:

Good­morn­ing Ky (1:59.3), Mia Lotta (2:02.3 – a maiden record), South­field Spirit (2:00.3), Shes A Lover (2:00.4), South­field Speedy (2:00.1), How­mac Royale (2:01.3), Dbs Rosco (2:00.2) and Keep Com­ing (1:58.1).

Chap­pell and Robert Chap­pell each recorded driv­ing dou­bles.

The to­tal wa­ger was $22,010. Live rac­ing re­sumes in Summerside on Sun­day, July 30, with post time set for 1 p.m.
