Traffic delays should be expected today and tomorrow in Charlottetown at the intersection of Capital Drive and North River Road/Lower Malpeque Road (to/from Cornwall). The City of Charlottetown will be replacing an aged, deteriorating storm culvert under this intersection in the fall, and this week’s delay is necessary to create a temporary diversion channel for storm flows during the main construction.
This section could be reduced to one lane of traffic travelling in each direction, with potential delays to traffic travelling through the site. Traffic signals will continue to control all vehicles at this intersection. The sidewalk on the west side of Lower Malpeque Road will be closed during construction and pedestrians will be directed to use the crosswalk at Kirkdale Drive and to use sidewalks on the east side. Similar work is expected to occur on the Lower Malpeque Road (to/from Milton) July 31 and Aug. 1. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.
