Charlottetown visits Chatham Ironmen tonight in senior league action
With the post-season looming, the Charlottetown Gaudet’s Auto Body Islanders aim to build on a win earlier in the week.
The New Brunswick Senior Baseball League club travels to Chatham, N.B., to face the Ironmen on Thursday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
Charlottetown (8-16) downed the Moncton Fisher Cats 5-1 on Tuesday in Charlottetown on Brody McDonald’s one-hit compete game and a 10-hit attack.
The Islanders’ bats have started to wake recently as the squad has scored 23 runs in its last five games (4.6 per game).
Chatham (13-9) was in a firstplace tie with the Saint John Alpines, but had lost two straight games going into Wednesday’s tussle with Moncton.
The Ironmen lead the season series 4-2, outscoring Charlottetown 23-14, but have lost two of its last contests versus the Islanders.
Ironmen ace JF Neveu (3-2) is second in the league with a 1.72 earned-run average.
Charlottetown’s Jordan Stevenson is third in the league in batting average (.400), and is fourth in ERA (2.88) and leads the Isles in home runs (2) and runs batted in (13).
Jeff Watkin leads the Ironmen in batting with a .345 average.
Charlottetown hosts the Fredericton Royals in a doubleheader at Memorial Field on Saturday. Game 1 start time is 2 p.m.
