Is­landers hop­ing to roll into play­offs

Char­lot­te­town vis­its Chatham Iron­men tonight in se­nior league ac­tion

With the post-sea­son loom­ing, the Char­lot­te­town Gaudet’s Auto Body Is­landers aim to build on a win ear­lier in the week.

The New Brunswick Se­nior Base­ball League club trav­els to Chatham, N.B., to face the Iron­men on Thurs­day. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Char­lot­te­town (8-16) downed the Monc­ton Fisher Cats 5-1 on Tues­day in Char­lot­te­town on Brody McDon­ald’s one-hit com­pete game and a 10-hit at­tack.

The Is­landers’ bats have started to wake re­cently as the squad has scored 23 runs in its last five games (4.6 per game).

Chatham (13-9) was in a first­place tie with the Saint John Alpines, but had lost two straight games go­ing into Wed­nes­day’s tus­sle with Monc­ton.

The Iron­men lead the sea­son se­ries 4-2, outscor­ing Char­lot­te­town 23-14, but have lost two of its last con­tests ver­sus the Is­landers.

Iron­men ace JF Neveu (3-2) is sec­ond in the league with a 1.72 earned-run av­er­age.

Char­lot­te­town’s Jor­dan Steven­son is third in the league in bat­ting av­er­age (.400), and is fourth in ERA (2.88) and leads the Isles in home runs (2) and runs bat­ted in (13).

Jeff Watkin leads the Iron­men in bat­ting with a .345 av­er­age.

Char­lot­te­town hosts the Fred­er­ic­ton Roy­als in a dou­ble­header at Memo­rial Field on Satur­day. Game 1 start time is 2 p.m.
