Both Is­land squads face off in NBPSL ac­tion at UPEI

It’s an all-Is­land af­fair as P.E.I. F.C. hosts the P.E.I. Canada Games team in New Brunswick Pre­mier Men’s Soc­cer League ac­tion in Char­lot­te­town on Thurs­day.

Game time at UPEI is 8 p.m. It’s the Canada Games squad’s last game be­fore it heads to Win­nipeg, Man., for the Canada Sum­mer Games while the P.E.I. F.C. (5-1-3) fin­ishes up the reg­u­lar sea­son.

With a win over the Canada Games (1-7-1), P.E.I. F.C. can move into first place, two points ahead of the Fred­er­ic­ton Reds, and can clinch the reg­u­lar-sea­son ti­tle if Fred­er­ic­ton (6-2-1) loses or ties against Fundy United (3-4-1) on Aug. 3.

Alex O’Brien and Jared Mur­phy lead the P.E.I. F.C. in goals, each with five, while Dono­van Bears has two goals to lead the Canada Games club.

P.E.I. keeper Bran­don Ea­gle is tied for sec­ond with three wins. Bran­don Lund has the lone Canada Games win.

Thurs­day’s other game has Co­diac First Touch (4-0-5) at Fundy at 8 p.m.
