A straw­berry and ice cream social is be­ing put on by Cavendish United Church con­gre­ga­tion at the CE Cen­tre, July 27, 6-8 p.m. En­joy all the home­made cake you can eat and all the tea, cof­fee and juice you can drink. All are wel­come. Tick­ets are at the door: adults - $6 and chil­dren $3.

The Church Mouse Thrift Shop, St. John the Evan­ge­list Angli­can Church, 391 Nel­son St. (TCH), Cra­paud, is open on Fri­day and Satur­days from 9 a.m. to noon, fea­tur­ing books, CDs, men’s, women’s and chil­dren’s cloth­ing, home fur­nish­ings, dishes, col­lecta­bles and much more. Tra­cadie Li­ons Sum­mer Sun­day Brunch is every Sun­day, 10-11:30 a.m., with pan­cakes, sausage, beans, toast, fruits, cheese, jams, tea, cof­fee, juice and fresh baked goods. The cost is $7 per adult, $4 per child (pre-school­ers free), ac­cept­ing cash and debit at the door. All pro­ceeds go to­wards on­go­ing com­mu­nity sup­port projects. St. Peters Bay Croki­nole Day is July 29 at the com­plex. Sin­gles will be played in the morn­ing and dou­bles in the af­ter­noon. No part­ner is nec­es­sary. Each ses­sion is $5, which in­cludes eight rounds of four games. Cash prizes and lunch are in­cluded. To reg­is­ter, call 961-2445.


The In­ter­na­tional Chil­dren’s Memo­rial Place will host its an­nual Fam­ily Fun Day on Sun­day, July 30, 1-4 p.m. at the site, 2115 Scales Pond Rd., South Free­town (rain date, Aug. 5). Ev­ery­one is in­vited to the free event.
