Man hit by car as he used crosswalk on Water Street late Thursday
A vehicle hit a pedestrian late Thursday night at the corner of Water Street and Central Street.
A man and his teenage son were crossing the street at the intersection just before 11 p.m. when a vehicle turning left struck the man in the crosswalk.
The man was taken to hospital by ambulance, treated and released.
He had only minor injuries, said Summerside Police in a release issued Friday.
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was interviewed by police.
This is the second incident this month where a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in a crosswalk.
The earlier incident resulted in the driver being charged for failing to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian.
Thursday’s incident remains under investigation.
Police are reminding motorists to use caution near intersections and crosswalks.
Pedestrians are also urged to use caution to ensure all vehicles in all directions are aware of their intentions to cross the road.
Police said a person is no match for a vehicle, and pedestrians should never assume the driver of a vehicle sees them.
