Man hit by car as he used cross­walk on Wa­ter Street late Thurs­day

A ve­hi­cle hit a pedes­trian late Thurs­day night at the cor­ner of Wa­ter Street and Cen­tral Street.

A man and his teenage son were cross­ing the street at the in­ter­sec­tion just be­fore 11 p.m. when a ve­hi­cle turn­ing left struck the man in the cross­walk.

The man was taken to hospi­tal by am­bu­lance, treated and re­leased.

He had only mi­nor in­juries, said Summerside Po­lice in a re­lease is­sued Fri­day.

The driver of the ve­hi­cle re­mained on scene and was in­ter­viewed by po­lice.

This is the sec­ond in­ci­dent this month where a pedes­trian was hit by a ve­hi­cle in a cross­walk.

The ear­lier in­ci­dent re­sulted in the driver be­ing charged for fail­ing to yield the right-of-way to a pedes­trian.

Thurs­day’s in­ci­dent re­mains un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

Po­lice are re­mind­ing mo­torists to use cau­tion near in­ter­sec­tions and cross­walks.

Pedes­tri­ans are also urged to use cau­tion to en­sure all ve­hi­cles in all direc­tions are aware of their in­ten­tions to cross the road.

Po­lice said a per­son is no match for a ve­hi­cle, and pedes­tri­ans should never as­sume the driver of a ve­hi­cle sees them.
