Hous­ing starts up

P.E.I.’s hous­ing mar­ket is see­ing a build­ing boom.

The lat­est re­port from the Cana­dian Mort­gage and Hous­ing Cor­po­ra­tion shows the num­ber of sin­gle-fam­ily homes built in P.E.I. in the first half of the year was up by 97 per cent com­pared to the same time in 2016.

That re­port’s sea­son­ally ad­justed hous­ing start data show the num­ber of new sin­gle-de­tached houses did drop by 29 per cent in June com­pared to the pre­vi­ous month.

All other hous­ing starts were up 328 per cent in June com­pared to May lead­ing to a to­tal over­all in­crease of 110 per cent over that pe­riod. In June, there were 240 sin­gle-de­tached hous­ing starts and 924 of all oth­ers.
