P.E.I. drivers are paying an extra 2.9 cents per litre at the pumps this morning.

The Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission, which regulates fuel prices on the Island, approved the rate increase. That pushes prices at self-serve outlets to 106.8 to 108.0 cents per litre.

Furnace and stove oil prices also increased by 2.9 cents per litre.

Diesel prices took the largest increase, going up 4.0 cents per litre.

Propane prices decreased by 0.8 cents per litre at Superior and Irving.

But propane prices increased by 1.0 cents per litre at Kenmac

Energy.

Increases in the wholesale price of gas, furnace oil and diesel over the past two weeks now necessitate the price increases, the commission said.

The next scheduled price adjustment is on Aug.
