The Summerside Chevys de­feated the Port City Pi­rates 8-1 in the cham­pi­onship match of the re­cent Fid­dler MacDonald me­mo­rial mos­quito AAA base­ball tour­na­ment in Charlottetown. The Chevys blanked the Mid-Isle Cougars 5-0 in the quar­ter-fi­nals, then trimmed the Ham­monds Plains A’s 12-2 in a four-in­ning semi­fi­nal. In the fi­nal, Bran­don Smith pitched a com­plete game to earn the vic­tory, al­low­ing just one run on six hits while strik­ing out four bat­ters and throw­ing 67 pitches. Ge­orge Gal­lant, the Chevys’ lead­off hit­ter, sparked the of­fence by go­ing 3-for-3 and scor­ing a run. Smith, Grif­fin Ryan and Cole Ech­lin each chipped in with two-hit ef­forts.
