Chevys at full throttle
The Summerside Chevys defeated the Port City Pirates 8-1 in the championship match of the recent Fiddler MacDonald memorial mosquito AAA baseball tournament in Charlottetown. The Chevys blanked the Mid-Isle Cougars 5-0 in the quarter-finals, then trimmed the Hammonds Plains A’s 12-2 in a four-inning semifinal. In the final, Brandon Smith pitched a complete game to earn the victory, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out four batters and throwing 67 pitches. George Gallant, the Chevys’ leadoff hitter, sparked the offence by going 3-for-3 and scoring a run. Smith, Griffin Ryan and Cole Echlin each chipped in with two-hit efforts.
