P.E.I. ju­nior base­ball team set for the post-sea­son

It’s play­off time again in the New Brunswick Ju­nior Base­ball League. Things kick­off Wed­nes­day when the Chatham Iron­men (7-17) host the Saint John Ju­nior Alpines (618) in the best-of-three quar­ter­fi­nal se­ries. Game 2 is Thurs­day in Saint John, N.B., while Game 3, if nec­es­sary, is in Chatham. Win­ner faces the top-seeded Metro Mud­cats (21-3) in one be­stof-five semi­fi­nal.

The P.E.I. Ju­nior Is­lan­ders (16-8) start its best-of-five semi against the fourth-ranked Fred­er­ic­ton Roy­als (10-14) on Satur­day with a dou­ble­header at Me­mo­rial Field in Char­lot­te­town. Game 1 goes at 3 p.m.

Game 3 and Game 4, if nec­es­sary, is in Fred­er­ic­ton on Sun­day be­gin­ning at 1 p.m.

Game 5, if needed, is to be de­ter­mined. Golf and Coun­try Club. Ac­tion runs Fri­day through Sun­day.

The tour­na­ment also serves as the PGA of Canada’ At­lantic zone cham­pi­onship where over 30 pro­fes­sion­als will com­pete to be the zone champ and cap­ture the win­ner’s por­tion of the $13,000 purse. Past win­ners of the Open com­pet­ing this week­end in­clude Kevin Du­gas, Scott Frizzell, Trevor Giggey, Tim McCul­lum, Brian Af­fleck and Shane Grin­ton.

The tour­na­ment kicks off Fri­day with the cor­po­rate pro-am. In­di­vid­ual stroke play starts Satur­day. Am­a­teur spots are avail­able un­til Wed­nes­day at noon. Reg­is­ter at 902-672-2842.
