Chevys win again

Summerside pee­wee AAA team claims third straight tour­na­ment

The Summerside Chevys’ pee­wee AAA base­ball team re­cently com­pleted a nat­u­ral hat trick.

The Chevys cap­tured their third con­sec­u­tive tour­na­ment of the sea­son, win­ning the 16team Paul (Tubby) Me­lan­son ti­tle in Monc­ton and Dieppe, N.B.

The Chevys went 2-1 in round-robin play. They de­feated the Ham­monds Plains Athletics 13-11 and Port City Pi­rates 5-0 while drop­ping an 11-4 de­ci­sion to the Mi­ramichi Twins.

The Chevys then pulled out an 8-3 win over the Charlottetown-based Cap­i­tal Dis­trict Is­lan­ders in the semi­fi­nals. That vic­tory set up a re­match of the Summerside tour­na­ment fi­nal against the Kentville Wild­cats, and when all was said and done the Chevys pulled out an 8-5 de­ci­sion to fin­ish with an over­all record of 4-1.

Dono­van Arse­nault picked up the pitch­ing win for the Chevys in the fi­nal. Cody McCor­mack, who con­trib­uted two hits and drove in three runs, came on in re­lief to earn his The Summerside Chevys won the pee­wee AAA ti­tle of the Paul (Tubby) Me­lan­son base­ball tour­na­ment in Monc­ton and Dieppe, N.B., over the week­end. The Chevys com­pleted tour­na­ment play with an over­all record of 4-1.
