Provincial championships scheduled for Saturday in Summerside

The Guardian (Charlottetown) - - SPORTS -

The P.E.I. Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships take place Saturday at Credit Union Place in Summerside.

The first powerlifting meet on P.E.I. was held 20 years ago and while interest in the sport has had its ups and downs, Saturday’s meet is to be the largest ever on the Island with the exception of when P.E.I. hosted nationals.

More than 60 lifters from across the Maritimes and Ontario will be competing in a meet where national records can be set and lifters can qualify for regional or national competitions.

Meet directors John MacDonald and Justin Smith expect a full day of lifting, with competition set to begin at 9 a.m. and wrapping up in the evening.
