Re­peat drunk driver jailed

A Bru­denell woman with her third drunk driv­ing con­vic­tion was sen­tenced Tues­day to 90 days in jail on two charges.

Amy Eileen Sherry, 36, ap­peared be­fore Chief Judge Nancy Orr in pro­vin­cial court in Char­lot­te­town where she pleaded guilty to fail­ing the breath­a­lyzer. She was also sen­tenced for driv­ing while dis­qual­i­fied.

The court heard the po­lice ar­rested Sherry af­ter re­ceiv­ing a com­plaint about a pos­si­ble im­paired driver. Sherry pro­vided breath­a­lyzer sam­ples that were above the le­gal limit.

She had prior con­vic­tions for the same of­fence in 2011 and April 2016.

Sherry will serve the sen­tence in­ter­mit­tently and must per­form 150 hours of com­mu­nity or pay $10 to the East­ern Kings Health Foun­da­tion for ev­ery hour not com­pleted.

She will be on pro­ba­tion for two years and must pay $200 in vic­tim sur­charges.

Orr banned Sherry from driv­ing for two years.
