More funds to CBU fol­low­ing dis­clo­sure

HAL­I­FAX - Cape Bre­ton Univer­sity is get­ting ad­di­tional money from the prov­ince af­ter it emerged pub­licly that Aca­dia Univer­sity has been re­ceiv­ing ex­tra fund­ing.

Both Pre­mier Stephen McNeil and Labi Kousoulis, the min­is­ter of Ad­vanced Ed­u­ca­tion, said Thurs­day that the Cape Bre­ton school is now also on track to get money, though they won’t say how much.

Fig­ures re­leased last week in pub­lic ac­counts doc­u­ments showed that Aca­dia re­ceived $10.5 mil­lion in ad­di­tional ap­pro­pri­a­tions the last fis­cal year.

The money in­cluded $7 mil­lion to cover a fed­eral loan and an ex­tra $3.5 mil­lion for the school’s op­er­at­ing grant.
