Souris-area man and woman res­cued from stranded dinghy

A man and a woman from the Souris area are safe af­ter they were res­cued while in a dinghy off­shore near St. Mar­garets on Satur­day. Kings Dis­trict RCMP re­sponded to a call at 5:30 p.m. af­ter a re­port that two peo­ple were off­shore in a rub­ber dinghy fight­ing the tides and cur­rents.

The man and the woman weren’t wear­ing life jack­ets and didn’t have pad­dles with them.

A Kings Dis­trict RCMP of­fi­cer joined a fish­ing boat captain and mate at Naufrage Har­bour be­fore res­cu­ing the two peo­ple.

Mem­bers of the Souris Fire De­part­ment were also dis­patched, and Is­land EMS at­tended the scene. Nei­ther of the dinghy’s oc­cu­pants re­quired med­i­cal treat­ment.
