Man charged with stealing booze from hotel

The Guardian (Charlottetown) - - THE ISLAND -

A 31-year-old man faces charges of break, enter and theft for stealing alcohol early Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 6 a.m., Summerside Police Service received a report of an alarm at Local 311, a restaurant in the Prince County capital.

Officers arrived and discovered a break and enter had occurred and a quantity of alcohol had been stolen. Later that afternoon, police identified a suspect through video surveillance and arrested a Summerside man.

The accused will appear in court at a later date.

In a Facebook post, Local 311 owner Billy MacKendrick said even a small theft of alcohol hurts his business.

“Today we lost a few hundred bucks in booze, and lost revenue for most of the day. Yes it may not seem like a lot to many, but to a small business owner it really adds to the list of things we see all the time,” reads MacKendrick’s post.

“Everyday can mean making a pay to feed my family this week or not, and that is the risk entrepreneurs take when starting a new business.”
