Celebrating Anna’s life
Cast members, friends come together to celebrate the life of Anna Howard
Friends, visitors and wellwishers are invited to join a group of Avonlea Village alumni on Monday, Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. to celebrate the life of former cast member Anna Howard.
An Evening for Anna, hosted by Margaret McEachern and Adam Gauthier, will feature performances by Avonlea Village alumni, including Leon Gallant, Allison Ling Giggey, Ryan Casey, Robert Pendergast, Kristi Anderson and Rebecca Max.
Howard, who worked at Avonlea Village playing the roles of Josie Pye and Anne Shirley, had an extraordinary gift of bringing joy to everyone she met and did so while bravely fighting her own battle with mental illness. The concert is an example of how her spirit continues to bring people together.
“I felt like getting together with everyone from Avonlea whom Anna loved and performing together (which she also loved) would be a great way to honour her life and raise money for her sweet son who meant everything to her,” said Rebecca Max, who played Diana Barry and is one of the organizers of Monday’s event.
Co-organizer Kristi Anderson, who played Anne and Miss Stacy, says the concert will be a celebration.
“I felt like I both wanted and needed to do something for Anna. Anna was such a special person and a huge part of my life; it felt wrong not to do something that she would have enjoyed, to celebrate her. Concerts were a big part of Avonlea Village, and something that always brought the cast together, so bringing the past Avonlea crew together for a concert for Anna just felt good.”
Fiddler Allison (Ling) Giggey also shared the stage with Anna.
“Working at Avonlea was a strange and wonderful experience. There’s a closeness that comes from a job like that. Many of the cast members still get together and stay in touch via social media; that’s how we shared stories and photos after Anna’s passing, and that’s where the idea for this concert started.”
The concert will be held at the Avonlea Village Church, with admission by donation. All proceeds will go directly to the education fund of Anna’s fouryear-old son.
Anna Howard (centre, as Anne of Green Gables) will be remembered in a concert Monday night at the Avonlea Village church.
