The Guardian (Charlottetown) - - ATLANTIC -

Cape Breton Regional Police are now investigating what they believe is a homicide in Sydney.

Police responded to a Prince Street address on Tuesday around 11 a.m. after receiving the report of a deceased person.

Upon arrival to the scene, officers discovered the body of man in his 50s inside his apartment.

At this point, police say the death is suspicious in nature and are treating it as a homicide.

Around noontime on Tuesday, a portion of Prince Street in downtown Sydney was cordoned off between Charlotte and Bentinck streets, while a police officer in a blue protection suit could be seen walking in the area. Additional resources were also dispatched, including a canine unit that was spotted inside a police vehicle.

Police say they will be providing additional details on this matter as they become available. Members of the force’s major crime unit and forensic Identification units are now continuing with their investigation.

Police ask the general public if they have any information about this crime, to contact their dispatch center at 563-5151 or Crime Stoppers at 5628477 www.capebretoncrimestoppers.ca.
