Con­crete plans for Char­lot­te­town

Char­lot­te­town coun­cil is gear­ing up for some sum­mer work.

Coun­cil ap­proved a num­ber of res­o­lu­tions rec­om­mended by the city’s pub­lic works and ur­ban beau­ti­fi­ca­tion com­mit­tee dur­ing Mon­day’s meet­ing.

Coun­cil voted in favour of spend­ing $187,439.62 for a sup­ply of hot mix patch­ing as­phalt for the 2018. The as­phalt will be sup­plied by Is­land Con­struc­tion Ltd., which had the only sub­mis­sion to the ten­der.

There was a re­quire­ment for lo­cal area pro­duc­tion and pickup of ma­te­ri­als. That is to limit travel time for city staff, who will be ob­tain­ing loads a cou­ple times each day per crew.

Coun­cil voted to award a ten­der for ma­te­rial in­ven­tory to Camp­bell’s Con­crete, which had a bid of $89,537.99. Coun­cil voted to ac­cept Branch Man­ager Tree Ser­vice’s bid for boom truck rental with an op­er­a­tor and stump grind­ing. The boom truck will cost the city $112.70 per hour, while stump grind­ing will cost $224.25 per stump. Coun­cil also ac­cepted Twins Land­scap­ing’s bid to sup­ply the city’s top­soil and Is­land Grown Sod’s sub­mis­sion to sup­ply the city’s sod.
