N.S. orders assessment of environmental damage from tire fire

The Guardian (Charlottetown) - - ATLANTIC -

HALIFAX — Nova Scotia’s environment minister says his department has issued a directive to an auto salvage yard that was the scene of a massive tire fire this week. Iain Rankin says the yard in Upper Rawdon is being ordered to hire an environmental company to assess whether the fire, that burned in a pile of an estimated 1,000 tires, caused any longterm damage to nearby waterways.

Rankin says department investigators were on site on Wednesday and determined there wasn’t “an immediate emergency.”
